This page provides
background to why I chose Bodiam station for this model.
My aunt and grandmother hop picking
I chose the 1950s because the maternal members of the family talked of the hop picking and it seems an interesting time - a slightly tired line with plenty going on. I have scoured the internet and have collected quite a few photographs. The only map I could find was produced by the Stephenson Society and I was not sure how accurate it was because the photographs show there have been subtle changes to the track layout at the Tenterden end of the station. In the preservation the siding points have been moved toward Tenterden, and there is now a run around through what was the coal siding. The National Railway Museum website showed a location map for the station, which is reproduced on the front page.
